Polyvinyl chloride commonly abbreviated PVC, is one of the most widely produced plastics. The rigid form of PVC is produced as sheet and pipe. PVC offers excellent chemical and corrosion resistance. It can be further modified by chlorination, which increases its heat resistance. It can also be made softer and more flexible by the addition of plasticizers to create flexible vinyl tube.
 
ACI offers four types of solid pvc sheet: See Thrus and three mechanical grades: Type I, Type II and CPVC.   The See Thrus include clear. Transparent and translucent colors are made to order. The See Thrus are intended for chemical resistant glazing and display applications that require a durable material. For additional information, see Clear PVC under See Thrus.
Types I, II and CPVC are opaque and intended for tough industrial applications. All of these materials offer good chemical resistance and fire ratings (UL-94V-0) considered self-extinguishing. Type I typically offers the highest chemical resistance. Type II relaxes chemical resistance in return for greater impact resistance. Type II is suited for applications that require thermoforming or where the finished product is subject to shock or physical abuse. The sustained operating temperature for I and II is 140° F and CPVC is 180° F.
